History

John F. Ward was opened in 1990 and is part of the Clear Creek Independent School District. John F. Ward was the Superintendent of the Clear Creek ISD. He came to our district in 1977 from the Friendswood School District, replacing the retiring Dr. Lloyd Ferguson (Ferguson Elementary School in League City is named for him). He was a well-respected man and good leader who had a warm and friendly personality that extended to his staff and colleagues. He attended PTA meetings, coffees, and many meetings of various organizations in the community to learn about the needs of the district.

Sadly, Dr. Ward died in 1988 after a brief illness. When new elementary schools were being built in 1990, ours was selected to be named after him. His widow attended the dedication ceremonies then and now lives in Colorado.

Our school is now 21 years old and we already have a history. Our history is reflected in the flags in the entry hall, the stories of the children and teachers, and the outstanding reputation our school has for excellence in education. We are proud of our school and are very proud that John F. Ward is the leader that we remember here.
